I have a 85 MC SS running a 383 with a Turbo 350 transmission I had 411 gears in the car traded them with a friend of mine for a rear end with some 320 somethings I with the 411 gears my car would be at 3800 rpms before I reached 60 mph definitely geared for the track in my process of turning my car into a street car im wondering do I need to change my transmission as well or will these higher gears allow me to drive the car longer distance at a faster speed without my rpms being so high

If you have a well built trans already and you like the getup and go it currently has and you don’t want to do a 200 or 700 swap a gear vendors OD will probably be the most cost effective solution and will be the strongest.

I know this does add a different view & may not be what the O.P. would want to do but maybe a 5 speed conversion might get a better set up of the gears between both the rear & transmission. Have the right 1st gear ration with O.D. in 5th could allow more choices on the rear gear set. I don't have a 5 speed but with my Saginaws I've been running over the years having a 3.11 1st which gave a good start while I was running the original 2.41 gears untill I blew it from dumping the clutch every chance in every gear. Even with the replacement 2.29 I had OK/good take off. It was great on the highway since I was running across 3 counties daily. Now the set up is with with a 2.73 rear which I expect to be acceptable for highway runs. Look into the cost compaired to a 4L80 conversion vs. a stick conversion. Not trying to talk someone into one but it could be an option.
