I've searched and have found many contradicting answers.
To start, I would only like to discuss the difference in the front frame horn section.
I realize we can compress the 5 mph shock or lengthen the frame horn by cutting and welding.
There also appears to be different 5 mph shocks. It would be helpful to start a comparison on these as well.

There are at least 2 different front frame horn length. (could be three, I don't know)

The short front frame horns are found on the following: (please correct me if you know differently)

1978-1980 Grand Am 2 door
1978-1979 Grand Am 4 door

1978-1981 Lemans 2 door
1978-1981 Grand Lemans 2 door
1978-1981 Lemans 4 door
1978-1981 Grand Lemans 4 door

1978-1981 Malibu 2 door
1978-1981 Malibu 4 door

1982-1986 Bonneville 4 door
1978-1988 Cutlass 4 door (1983 Cutlass Long front rails) not sure about other Cutlass
1978-1987 Regal 4 door

1978-1987 El Camino (wheelbase and rear frame rails are different, so frame swap will not work)

So that leaves the longer front frame horns:

1981-1988 Monte Carlo
1978-1987 Regal 2 door
1978-1988 Cutlass 2 door
1978-1987 Grand Prix
1983-? Cutlass 4 door
All Grand National

I'll have to look at my car but I'm pretty sure it has the long frame horns, which would indicate all 82-87 Grand Prixs have the long horns.

I'd like to revive this thread and ask for some help from forum members here.
We have every make and model of A/G bodies on this site.
I'm looking for a picture of the front frame rails including the 5mph shock.
Ideally the body will still be on the frame.
Please add year/make/model.
I am only concerned with the front frame rails at this point.
I can edit the list above as this progresses.
Thanks in advance...

here's another thread that was started:

I know the 78-80 Monte Carlos do not use those shocks. They have an aluminum bumper that bolts to the frame and a honeycomb between that and the bumper cover. I often wonder if my frame will interchang with what?

This is what I found usimg my Chevy parts books.
Monte Carlo frame p/n: '78 470211, '79 14017671 (must use engine mount 14005699 on '78 models) (used on '78-'81 Buick 09, 69, 87), '80-'81 14013462 (superseded '78 & '79 p/n's) (used on '81 Regal), '82-'88 14103516 (use on '83 Olds W40 Hurst/Olds, '78-87 Pontiac except 35.)
Malibu (19, 27, 69) p/n: '78 461808, '79 14005602 (same note as Monte Carlo), '80 14017667 (must use '80 front park brake cable on earlier models, superseded '79 p/n) (Used on Buick 09, 69, 87), '81 14032514 (superseded '78-'80 p/n's.)
Note body codes:
2 door body: 27, 37, 47, 87
4 door body: 09, 19, 69
station wagon: 35
Looks like the Monte frame would be the one to work on a LeMans. Keep in mind that this is incomplete as I have not cross checked all GM catalogs for our cars.
