hello, pondering a project, anybody thought of putting a g-body frame/floor under a 67 mustang fastback? Same wheelbase and wheel track. Would be full frame with room to work on motor. Probably 355 chevy power and a 200 4r trans with a 8.5 rear gear like a 3.73. The mustang body floor is rusted out and I have a gutted Monte SS to donate the running gear. What would the FORD guys think...who cares.

THOU SHALT BE STRUCK DOWN DOWN WITH VENGENCE AND FURY!

if you have a torch and a welder you can pretty much make anything work.

How many old Ford hot rods are powered by Chevy engines?

I kinda like the idea of a Mustang with an actual frame in it. One of my biggest problems with the "pony cars" (Camaro included) is the unibody construction that tends to "twist".

I'm not trying to stir the pot but inherited a mustang body that I actually like the look of and am trying to make it something that will actually drive decent, handle well, have good power and be different.

as long as you switch out all the badges to chevy, maybe... or you could get a motor outa a wrecked navigator and use that. ive seen one that did that and it hauled boo-tae.

Personally I would LOVE a 67 fast back you are damn lucky to have inherited one. If the unibody structure is to rusted out to be salvaged and you can only save the skin I say go for it, should be an awesome project.

I kinda like the idea of stripping the badges and replace them with Chevy ones, or just leave it devoid of any badging at all.

Here you go make it universal. Mustang skin, G body frame, and Mopar 426 hemi

A friend in high school had a '67. It drove like a truck. Later I did some work on another '67. Ever try to replace header gaskets on a 390 in a Mustang? I say do the body swap. Build it to keep it because it will be next to impossible to sell :x . Just don't ever open the hood in public.

If you're going to do that, you HAVE to nick-name the car frankinstien lol.

And as for the whole "unibody's twist", yeah that's the only draw back, in my 73 I've done some easy re-enforcement work though.

Sounds like a cool project but Dynacorn makes a complete new body for the 67-68 fastback. You could transfer the running gear and have a brand new 'stang and cut up the old body and sell it for parts.

I probably would not use either car's chassis if going for anything requiring massive amounts of fabrication. The early Mustang has an apocalyptically bad suspension, while the G body is just bad. I would try to find a more modern car as a suspension donor and make a frame around that. For power, use the 4.6 DOHC from a Mark VIII.
