G body performance upgrades book

I found out that my car made the book, but only one picture made it in with a simple quote. I had given him a bunch of information on what I did to the car. However the only thing that was mentioned was that it's a big block with a four speed. So I understand what you mean by showing pictures only and not going into detail about how it got that way!!

My review of it after reading it cover to cover is it is well written, has some neat insights into the GBody line if cars. I was disappointed in the fact that it is a "performance upgrade" book it doesn't really show anything in depth, it's more or less some general pictures of upgrades that most everybody knows about. I like the more in depth books with fabrication documentation and such. Would have been nice to see a book that showed the steps to involved mods, I don't need a book to show me how to change a steering shaft

I got one earlier this week to take out of town with me for work. I skimmed through it and my initial assessment is that it's geared towards Chevy and LS drive trains. A little about Buicks, even less about Olds, and Pontiac may as well not exist.

Everything else is almost common knowledge if you've been around g-bodies for any length of time. Not bad for beginners I guess. I applaud the author for getting a g-body book published though.

The g-body community is by far the biggest source of knowledge. Nothing beats our write-ups, pictures, real world frustration, and real world budgets.

I want to thank all of you for the reviews. It appears this book may not be a purchase for me, unless I find it used and for cheap. Sounds like it's more for a beginner / novice. As most of you have mentioned I too was hoping it was more of a detailed book but from your comments it appears it is not. And if G-Body_Vet's assessment is true that's it's geared more toward Chevy and Ls drive trains I can just keep reading Car Craft & Hot-Rod mags.

Thanks

Who's ready to post a review after reading?

I asked you guys for reviews & instead of waiting for replys went ahead & bought the book. Read 45 pages last night. I'm glad I bought it. My '82 Calais is stock & its time to spend money on upgrades. I will finish reading the book & then reread it & make notes regarding my intentions for the Calais. My notes will have common swap parts to look for as well as what aftermarket parts I'll be saving for. This is really going to help me formulate a plan of attack to reach my goals & possibly stay in budget. Last week I picked up a '03 5.3 & a '99 4L80E for $600. Obviously a long way to go on my parts list but its a start.

I give the man credit for writing a book, if it was easy anyone could have done it.

I was disappointed that they did nothing on the GNX suspension setup and yes was lacking detail.
There could also been more on bracing (stock rear seat braces from GP and Montes), frame bracing, lightweight components, more on brake conversions (Blazer) etc...
Almost seemed like a book on advertisements and how to bastardize your Olds with a Chevy.

It's a good book for newbies and anyone wanting reference material, just a little too seasoned to need this book.
I would have kept if it had something on GNX suspension, that killed it for me...

I'll sell my copy for $15 if anyone is interested.

Just start download the preview for IBooks, I'm a total noob in Gbody but master mechanics in German cars.
Will tell you if i buy.

See you
