Well, I guess if anybody still wonders why there's so many Cutlass' on the forum, it's cause they built almost 2.5 million 2-dr coupes... and that's just the 2-drs!

The Cutlass was the best selling car in America in the 80's until the Toyota Camry finally got its sh*t together later in the decade and pulled ahead...

So many people get excited about RARITY. Go find a 2 door fastback...only 48,000 built. I had a secretary that bought one, I thought it was ugly. The marketplace agreed. It would be a nice collector/novelty car now, not for financial gain though.

It looks like Cutlass Salons are almost as rare as 442's in 1986 and 1987 (if I read correctly). I could understand it, I don't think I have ever seen a Salon in person before. Now I have a real reason to cringe when people slop them up with aftermarket stuff, tear off all the nicely appointed factory trim, beat them up, and then part out what is left of them when they get tired of them. It's understandable though because they are more or less worthless even in top condition (for the time being). Maybe these people will start to regret it in 10-20 years. Or maybe not.

Isn't yours one of 5,335 (9,608 total, 4,273 of them were 442's)? I wonder how many are left after all the ones up north rotted out, wrecked, or turned into race cars? I really like your car, I wouldn't do anything to it. Maybe someday I'll find one like it. According to Edmunds.com appraisal, an 86' Salon with 80,000 miles in outstanding condition (showroom) is $270 trade in, $418 private party, and $672 dealer. In reality, I think adding a 0 to each of those numbers is more realistic. It doesn't matter if any car is kept original or not, I just think it is a shame to modify nice original classics. I think of it as more of a preservation of automotive/American history.

1 of 4,105 and even if it were all original ... still none too collectible. Pity GM didn't keep track of RPOs. I've always wonderred how many of that 4,105 were tou-toned. Car was originally blue over white. Add on to the fact that mine has the factory alloys and was well optioned, but it's just another accident free, low rust Cutlass with parts from probably EVERY production year now.
