I got a 7.5 posi rear end sitting in my garage with some 2.19 (or something like that) gears in it. I want to put some 3.73 gears in it before I install the rear in my car. I found a 85 S-10 with a 7.5 in it at the salvage yard. The code in the glovebox was GT4 & the gears have 11.41 stamped on them then after that it has 7 5/8. Will these gears fit into my car & what does the 7 5/8 mean? If they will fit, are they a direct swap onto my posi unit or will i need a spacer for them to work? Does it mean my unit is a series 2 since I have the 2.XX gears on it?

Will these gears fit into my car & what does the 7 5/8 mean? It just means it's 7 5/8 rear but the gears will still work. No, you will need a spacer Does it mean my unit is a series 2 since I have the 2.XX gears on it? 2 series carriers go from 3.08 and numerically lower ratios. 3 series carriers go from 3.23 and numerically higher ratios. This is why you need to put the spacer to put the 3 series 3.73 gears on your 2 series carrier.
