if the ring gear has 41 teeth, and the other gear has 15 that makes the gear ratio 2.73:1 correct??? Anyone think it is worth switching my stock 7.5 in my cutlass that has a 2.41 in it i believe, and swapping to a 8.5 with 2.73s out of a 76 cutlass???? How easy is the swap will it bolt right up???? I know it is a little longer but it should work with the backspacing on my camaro rims.

Definitely not a bolt in, and the improvement in ratio is minimal. You want a 3.23-3.42 ratio for a street car, with a 3.5-3.73 maximum.

what is needed to make it fit???? or what is the easiest rear assembly to find that would be the easiest to put in in say a 3.23 ish ratio????

8.5" Rear from 84-87 442's and Grand Nationals is a direct bolt in.
The 7.5" from an earlier GBody 442, Monte SS, Regal T-type etc would also work as long as your engine isn't too wild.

You have 2.41 gears, so I'm assuming you have a 3 speed mated to a 305? Running a 3.00+ rear you'll probably want a TH200-4R if you want any resemblance of gas mileage.
