I'm putting a 350 into my 87 regal along with a 700r4 trans. I was told that I need to swap my stock 2.41 gears for something else. What would be the best combo for me, it's not a race car, i do a lot of highway driving so i want something a little better for gas. Should i go 3.08 or 3.42, or something in-between?

Thanks,

x2 - I think either 3.23 or 3.42 would be a good choice or the street. Nothing lower than the 3.08.

My wagon has a 305HO, th2004r transmission and a 2.56 rear end. That's about 1750 rpm at 75 mph in high gear, below the torque range.

It gets good highway mileage, but not in town and worse, no guts to the thing at all. I wanted to go to 3.23, but just found a 3.73 out of an SS at a good price and intend to give it a try. If it sucks, I can always change it again.

you got the overdrive so youll be better off.

If you want some serious off the line action go for the high gear, They say 3.73 is great for the street and you can still cruise the highway. but i would go with the 3.42 if you are really going that much highway driving.

I got 3.42 in my car wit hah th350 and its not so bad.

if you do alot of highway i would go with 3.08 gears

With 2.41 gear and a 700 trans you should get terrific gas mileage cruising down the highway, It wont be very quick but it sure will be a cruiser.

Thanks for the help guys, i think i'll try 3.42 so i can cruise and still have a little jump. I'll get back to you with the results later when i do it.

I love those calculators.

according to that. if im at my rev limit of 5500 in second gear ill be going threw the traps at 88 mph... now i just need to find a flux capacitor
