I know that there are a few of you guys that have modern GTs with the Getrag M-82. A few have mentioned a disdain of the M-82. One time I recall, somebody even mentioned that shifting felt like pressing rubber balls.

From my point of view, I actually like the M-82 in my GT, although it does feel a little different from other standards I’ve driven. With that said, my M-82 has a Barton shifter & I run the non-synthetic gear oil (I read a TSB on this at one point). Its also relatively smooth in my point of view.

What points of view do you guys have with regards to the M-82?

I own a 2013 boss 302 with the MT-82 . I feel the same in regards to the Transmission. After 24000 Miles and no trouble. I replaced the stock shifter with an MGW shifter. Definite improvement in the shifter feel. My one and only complaint is the stock clutch. My car suffers from high RPM shift lock out going into 3 gear. A lot of guys use an aftermarket clutch setup with good results.

I've been driving my GT for ~four years now and have not had the lockout issue but I've heard others mention it.

That is a clutch thing and not a transmission thing? Basically on a Coyote, the higher you can shift it, the faster it is and 6800 2-3 and especially on 4-5 shifts the M-82 just doesn't want to go into gear. (and I'd like to bump the fuel cut off to 7200, because I know the car would pick up a mph or two in the 1/2)

At the last 1/2 mile event we did, my son couldn't get it cleanly into 5th on all three runs. Never had that problem with the T56 magnum in my 2+2.

Most people don't care about trying to shift from 4-5 @ 6800 RPM, but I do and the MT82 doesn't do it very well.

Over on the boss 302 forum a few guys went with a spec 2 clutch set up and reported favorable results. No more lockout.

They all need a clutch someday so I will look into this.

Over the years at the Arnold, NE 1/2 mile event, my '13 5.0 has been faster than every stock Boss 302 but 1 and he was only .4 mph faster at the same event. My car was a 3.55/std. brake GT Premium and the big brakes seem to eat some mph... when I put on big brakes my car (brembo front/GT500 rear) it appears to have slowed down a couple mph.. on the runs it goes cleanly into 5th.

I switched to a 1 pcs driveshaft and though painful for a guy like me who buys driveshafts for $35 at the junkyard, I do like that mod. I immediately noticed it was less bucky at low speed/low rpm, like pulling out of my driveway.

UnGn,

Which driveshaft did you upgrade to? I see lots to choose from on the mustang upgrade sites..

I went with the Ford Motorsport one. The car is still under extended warranty so I'm trying to use only factory drivetrain mods for now, or at least mods I can swap out in a couple minutes, like axle backs.
