I think I may have found my engine shaking and weird running problem. The little carbon brush thing in the HEI, it sits under the coil, and contacts the tang on the rotor. On all the caps and all the brushes I have tried, the brush does NOT extend past the nub in the cap. Is it supposed to? I've seen pictures online of HEI caps and they are all protruding out from the cap. Is it supposed to touch the rotor directly? The plastic around a new cap I just put on with a new button is all eaten away and looks melted and dusty. Also, I pulled all 4 of the driver's side spark plug wires and it ran like nothing happened. What the hell?
