sentras are sh*t I rode in my sisters and it was just really cheap looking. 14" hubcaps, plastic dash, cheap feeling stiff cloth seats, the back seat gets extremely hot under braking. to me just a sucky car

Yes, but a Sentra will keep going FOREVER. I hated the styling of both my 1995 and 1998 Sentras, but they were very well built and fuel efficient. BTW, both of mine had the 13 in wheels, which I tend to prefer in a small car. It should be said that I don't like the Sentras built since 2000, they are way too big for my taste.

Oh, and BTW, my Nissan was built in Tennessee, not Japan. GM and Ford both build many of their vehicles ( including the F-150) in Mexico, not the US. GM even imports some if it's engines from China now (Chevy Equinox V6).

If Detroit wants my business, they can earn it with a good small car. I could give two sh*ts about their expensive V8's and big trucks, what I want is cheapness and fuel economy. The Ford Fiesta that is supposed to be sold here in a year has really caught my eye. Nicer looking than the Honda Fit (my current choice) and with great reviews coming from Europe. It will be interesting to see if it is as good as they hype, and if they sell it in a proper 3 door hatchback, not just as a sedan. I just hope it's not big and bloated like the Nissan Versa. What I would really like is a Japanese Kei car, but we will never get one of those here. They are regulated by law to have no bigger than a 660cc engine. I'll also say that the first company to make a cheap shitbox (under $13k) that gets 35+mpg in the city gets my business.

Don't forget though for every little econo/sh*t box they sell here, 2 Suburbans are being sold with incredibly bad drivers taking the wheel. I don't know about everybody else but I also like to feel safe.

having been a mopar guy my whole life, i've had several cars.

i've owned 5 Daytonas and LeBaron and currently my cherokee.

the Cherokee has been the worst from a reliability standpoint.

my last daytona and the only non-shelby was best car i've ever owned.
93 purchased in 95 w/44k. had 2.5/5spd. sold in 99 w/166k on it.
still had orig exhause, rear brakes and clutch.
i'm still kicking myself til this day. only bad spot was the bracket that held up the driverside seat back broke. so a permanent recliner.

never owned an import so really can't compare. i, personally, wouldn't own one.

The foreign companies can go in the wrong direction too sometimes. I liked my '97 Tacoma better then the '07 I have now. The '07 has been too "Americanized," that being too big and frumpy looking. It it also slower, heavier, and gets worse MPG than the '97. It's really no longer a compact pickup, more of a midsize like the Dodge Dakota. I think they took the Tacoma in the worng direction. I don't recall anyone who owned an older Tacoma saying they wanted it bigger, so I don't know what marketing research that decision came from. But I will say this, the '07 Tacoma is still light years better than that POS '02 Ranger I had. It was the last chance I gave to Ford, and they failed me terribly.

Yes, but did they actually build any good ones? Cavalier, Omni/Horizon, Escort. None of them were good cars compared to their Japanese competition. It's funny how the Japanese made a business model out of small cars in this country for a long time while the big 3 couldn't.
Agreed, I would much rather have a Japanese made small car than any of the American made small cars. Honda/Acura, Mazda and Toyota know how to make things small (maybe by experience, since Japanese have small...) and run for a long time with enough horsepower and torque to have fun.

my

brother works for a place called Means Indus. hes been layed since May and at the moment has no sign of coming back. He has 6 years of duty in the business there using a forklift, working the lines, etc a line worker I could say I guess. He always says only a matter of time before they call me back until then Ill just collect my unemployment. The place is less the 5 minutes from our house and he gets about 16 an hour there. I personally dont see that happening and even if he is called back I dont ever see him retiring from that place. Sure its a union, but really what are unions these days. I dont see them as much honestly. Im worried for the guy, he wants to go to school someday hes 26 but at the moment doesnt have a liscence because of drinking and driving offenses. What do you see happening to people like my brother< are they going to be called back to work or are they going to run out of unemployment in 6 more months and have to look elseware for work??? 🙁

The economy is falling off a cliff....people have stopped buying at retailers. They got their Sep 30 401k statement and theyre scared as hell and realize they have to work for longer years. (I warned you). He will not be called back. Best chance is unemployment $ will be extended, but that's not a good career move. School would be good IF he has a career plan that will pay good. America doesn't need more history and philosophy majors, but rather math and science majors. I have one daughter making 50K teaching science and another making 100K as an project engineer in the natural gas industry, both stable/growing fields.

well

I only excel in writing, english, history, philosophy, and public speaking, I only hope with a masters degree that I will be able to get a decent job at a museum and what not. I guess only time will tell. I have a really good memory, I can remember locker combinations from school that I have not used in over 7 years ahha and I dont know exactly why? I know that it helps when it comes to topics of history. I wouldnt say that going into history is bad. If anything its just as risky as most other degrees. I am actually one of the few who is not going into teaching. There are far too many people going into that area. I was talking to my dad about it today. One of my professors also told me that there is a huge in flux of people going into it vs 20 years ago, none if not most anyway will not find a job. By getting a masters in history he said I will be a little bit better off. Another degree I find somewhat useless is business. They are a dime a dozen. 7 out of 10 people I meet everyday at my college are getting those, or a teaching degree. That is why I went hte other route to try to be a historion etc.

Most go into teaching cause they can't find elsewhere....few slots.
