I would like to mount my tach right above the radio and AC controls to the right of the speedo bezel. I really didnt want to drill into the dash. Does anyone have one mounted there or a clever way to put it there without hacking up the dash. The dash is soft and Im a little concerned it will flop around if I put it there. I have a 3 3/8 cup for it already.

Maybe a combination of a strong squeeze mount and sitting on a velcrow strip. Is the car salvagable? I mean like as a future original type restoration? If not screw it in and don't worry about it. The GN owner are not likely going to be buying your dash / speedometer mount as some regular Regals also had the same grey.
like you fodo, I'd love to set one up there, just don't want to drill into the dash... I tried to mount mine with velcro on the bottom and back, but the first hot day, the glue let loose, and never did stick well for more than a day....I'm actually thinking about finding on to fit in a gauge pod on the a pillar, but want to find one with silver face... (I have the 79-83 silver 3 square setup for a cluster)my thoughts change on the car constantly, so it may still get mounted there if someone has come up with a good mount idea...
I also thought about doing that to mount a guage cluster I never went with that particular spot on the guage cluster pod thingy because it was iffy. I went with on the side of the 'climate control cluster'. And I screwed it in. Really tight spot its not going anywhere.
My advice is if you wanted to do it - drill a hole (or 2) and get a small nut and bolt and make some BIG washers fit so the clamping force was distributed over more area  . Also the vibrations and stress would be distributed. The big washer isn't so necessary on the side you would see because the bracket that holds the gauge should act like a washer
Thats what my plan was but I feared the same thing...
You remove your speedo housing ( the gray shroud around the speedo) you'll find additional holes near the top, you could mount a bracket to and have that bracket stick out far enough to hold the TACH.
Solid mount there and the bracket dissapears behaind the shroud once reintstalled, looks like tach is floating to the side of the dash above the radio.
I've also seen a gauge frame that straddled the radio pod, looks like a upside down "y "and at the bottom u tighten it up tight to the bottom of the radio pod, at the top of the kickstand of the upsidedown "y" they mounted a tach and on the bar that crossed over the top of the radio pod, they put on cup mounts for gauges.
I think this picture shows, the "floating" tach Idea
Guys I also remembered a guy that made a mounting kit to attach a tach to under the rearveiw mirror, using the mirror as a mounting point, had a quick disconnect harness too.
I left him a P/M , so hopefully he will get back and I can update you guys.
Also the "y" frame I spoke of earlier, just so happens one of my friends, has one and soon as he sends me pics, I'll post those too.
The most unusal and least obstrusive and very easy to mount, was a guy mounted his tach to a plug-in end that fits in the cigiratte lighter, just de comished the plugs purpose and fabbed some small plate attached it to the tach.
Found a pic of the cigarette lighter mounted tach.... kinda low for me but ... neat idea and several used it, wouldn't suggest it for a hard hitting car on a launch.
Theres a buddy of mine has one similar to this one, but mounted his tach on top.
Mine , for now, is mounted to the steering coloum, plan on doing the " floating" tach after my Cyberdyne Digital Dash is installed. ( it was in My GN, and was wired and set up on the tach for a V6, since I got a V8 now, I'm using a after market tach.)
A good update on the "floating" tach mount.... My friend who used to make them awhile back , on his own time, is now a vendor in the GN world, and is re introducing those.. he will be sending me photos today, of the bracket, and its instalation process.
