before i get into doing the body and paint on the monte im gonna try and get my engiine put together alittle better. main reason is i think my valve seals and guides may be shot, smokes heavy every startup, blue not black. but goes away. so i figure since im gonna have it apart ill put a little into it, just to liven it up for another year or 2 until i can put an lsx swap together. the current specs are it is a an 87 lg4 with alittle about a 112k on it, edelbrock q jet, accel distributor, no computer controls left. it runs great and feels pretty damn strong compared to any other 305 ive had. but anyway here is what im thinking.
a set of heads off an l69 305 my buddy had rebuilt and fully ported professionaly
a lunati voodoo 60101k cam, .454/.468 lift with 256*/262* duration(ive had it sealed in the box for 2 years now, want to use it for somthin)
set of roller tip stamped rockers
set of flowtech longtube after burner headers (i hear they install from up top)
id reuse my factory aluminum q jet manifold, edelbrock qjet, and obviously keep my pypes x pipe system.
the reason for keeping the factory intake is, from what i understand performer intakes arent significantly better, does this sound like a decent combo? im not lookin for crazy performance or anythiing cause i know i wont get it with a 305, but i wouldnt mind alittle more power and alittle more rumble. thanks

The 305 has a small bore but the same stroke as a 350. Build for torque rather than HP. The cam you have should do just that. You may find that rebuilding your stock heads will give a better match to the rest of the combination over the ported heads. Smaller, high-velocity runners are what you're after. If your buddy's L69s weren't ported I'd say go that direction. It should pull pretty strong on the low-end but I wouldn't expect much above 5000rpm. How much time do street cars spend above 3500 anyway? Also, if you can run thinner head gaskets and take a little off the head surfaces to pick up a little compression you'll see a bit more pep and slightly better mileage.

thats more what im goin for just give it alittle more low end grunt, i drive the car everyday currently, so im not lookin to go crazy anyway. when i say ported i dont mean hogged out runners etc, there more less cleaned up and smoothed out castings, he had them in his monte for a very short time but realized the 305 would never do what he wanted to do so he will sell em to me for a reasonable price that beats me rebuilding mine. he had an edelbrock 600 or 600cfm carb on air gap intake, and some sort of mild cam on his 305 with these heads, his car pulled pretty strong im hopin mine will pull a little harder but if it does it does if it dont it dont. ive had this cam around for a while and i was gonna do a 350 up for this car and use it, but the cam just isnt what id want for a 350 and if threw a bunch of money at 350, i still wouldnt have what i really want, so i think this should satisfy me for awhile. ive got everything needed figured down to the gaskest with out shipping comes to like 600 somthin dollars. should make for some nice weekend upgrades
