Nothing special but I've thought about this for awhile and gave it a try. Anyone else familiar with older Pontiac wheels have probably seen the worn off, faux woodgrain paint on the metal part of the center section.

Well anyway, I stripped the paint and polished the center trim. Doesn't look bad IMO.

Looks nice, how did you chrome theouter center part?

It's not chrome, it's polished aluminum. I can work wonders with a bench buffer and some Mother's polish
You should see my stainless .357

any chance you can get bored on my wheels?

I don't mind the work, but the current state of whatever it is makes a big difference. It also depends how nice of a finish you're looking for. Those valve covers had corrosion and needed to be broken down and resurfaced. I start with 150 grit and go all the way to steel wool in some cases. Other sets were just tarnished and needed a good buff. It's really easy to put 4 hours worth of work (depending on how much beer is consumed) into a set of valve covers themselves.

I'm getting quite good at polishing old aluminum too... But I hate the polished look, which makes me wonder why I always drag myself through the process
:blam:
... Unfortunately for me, the work is harder than necessary, cuz I'm quite ill equipped.
