I put 3.73's in and now my 2004r shifts too early. Does anyone know how much the monte ss governor weights weigh. I know that most just shave off weight to feel but I'm looking to get in the ball park. Thanks

Be carefull about mixing governors with different valve bodys on a 2004r. Always seem to shift wacky. Also shaving weight off a governor can cause some annoying part throttle shifting too. Best to get with one of the 2004r pros and tell them where you want your shifts to be at and maybe they can recommend you a proven governor/VB combo that'll suit you.

and usually you need to change weights and springs at the same time.

Before I went to grinding/drilling on the weights, try moving the light spring to the smaller weight and go without a spring on the big weight. This is reversable if you don't like it. You also might try some different springs if you can source some.
Have you gone to a larger boost valve? This can help raise shift points by having more pressure in the system. Also a 2.1 inch spring in the tv valve to make pressure jump when the throttle/tv valve is opened.

What other mods to the trans have you done?

I bought the monster in a box from monster transmission. It came with a shift billet servo and superior shift kit. Clutches, plates, seals, 10 vain pump etc. Its got a b&m 2100 stall torque. Above that I bought new bushings and thrust washers than don't seem to be in any kit. The shift kit changed the throttle valve spring.

I have an extra governor that I was going to work with. The part I don't understand is why would the valve needs to match the governor? The shift valves move as governor pressure increases. Now that I have 3.73s that were 2.73s the driveshaft is spinning faster and allowing the pressure to increase at lower ground speeds. So if the weights were lighter then it would shift later. The governor needs to match the diff. That's why I was thinking of monte ss governor weight, they came with 3.73.

damn, i just had my governor assembly out and in pieces a few weeks ago, weighing the weights and shaving them down when i added the screw to keep the spring from popping out... for the life of me i cant remember what it weighed... i want to say it was 11.4 grams, BUT DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THAT... i added a .9 gram screw and shaved off .9 of a gram off the weight... forgot to take a pic after i added the screw...

I read a tip on the TurboBuick website. The guy drilled (and tapped) a hole into the part of the governor that holds the spring and added a nylon/ plastic screw to keep the spring from popping off.

Found it...http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/thread ... ng.399648/

thats what i did, except i used a metal screw, i screwed the screw into the hole, then grinded the weight with a 4 wheel gemstone polisher until it weighed right... havent had the spring pop off since... the spring popped off 4 times in a week and i couldnt get my hands on a new spring so i went with the addition of the screw... couldnt be happier... very light throtttle shifts are at 2,750rpm, hard accel is at 5,000-5,750... the weight i believe weighed 11.4 grams.

The vb has springs that control shift points that are matched to the governor. Mix/match can result in poor results. The gear is matched to tire size and rear gears but the weights/springs as well at the MTV up and MTV down valves all have an affect on shift points.
