Are there any good speakers that will replace the factory in dash speakers without modifications?
The passenger side is extrmly close to the hard plastic heater vent duct work.
What have you all used? Thanks...

first find out what size the speakers are and then you can goto http://www.crutchfield.com/ and see what your car came with. like on my elky the 2 speakers i got are 3 1/2", they sell them from 12 bucks all the way up to 100+. i got lucky and found them at autozone for like 12 bucks a piece. since my car is really loud, sound quality doesnt matter as long as i can hear it. i added 2 6x9 in the cubbie hole for mids and a lil bass. if your mor interested in sound quality then crutchfield will help ya out. also read reviews, that helps too.

I put my tweeter in that location and the 6.5 in the door...the centre speaker area is perfect for crossovers. As you noticed there isn't any room or depth to put anything other then the stock size speaker in the speaker location

I used the large opening in the center of the dash with the removable grille and made a bracket to hold 2 3 1/2" speakers next to each other and put them back in the center of the dash. To remove and replace the 2 side speakers I believe you have to remove the dash to get them.

Jerry455 is a correct and I did the same. I used the replacement 2nd gen Firebird speakers offered by Classic Industries and used the factory filler/delete insert that was under the center speaker grill to mount them I still haven't found a good reason to yank the dash to justify replacing the 2 end speakers. Does the GP even use the center dash like my Bonneville? Why couldn't they have removable grilles like Chevy used?!?!?

I am changing the dash, so this is why I'd like to get some good speakers installed. I think the left side has some room to work with.
I have an extra duct piece for the right side. I am going to try to cuy out a dish portion of the duct, flip it and bond it back together. This should make room for the larger magnet and still allow flow from the heater/ac...
I'm not pulling the old dash until I get the speakers figured out.
Thanks for the suggestions..

FWIW in my Malibu wagon I used some very nice pioneer TS-879 40 watt coaxials. But those were super easy to get at.

In an 87 corvette I used to have I put a pair of Boston Accoustic 4x6 plate speakers in the dash locations.
Cant be less room in these cars.
They sounded great!!!
