I know that the advertised horsepower rating for the stock 1987 Grand National (or T-Type) is 245 HP but I'm wondering if that published figure was underrated?

I heard somewhere the car actually produced somewhere in the low 300's with a similar torque figure. Not sure, but I've heard they were underrated many times

I've always wanted (since th 80's) to own one but was distracted by 'other things' during the widow of time in my life when Imcould have bought one - ha. Anywho, maybe some day I could purchase the next best thing (in my mind) which is a T-Type with the same driveline.

87 245 HP at 4400 RPM
shift point at 5800 RPM on an 86-87 turbo car? :D
Then you have to consider torque. Just saying..........
I'm driving a 58,000 mile 87 Turbo T WE-4 home tonight. Then we have weight as a factor. 400 lbs less then a GN. Aluminum bumper re-enforcements & wheels (rotating weight)

foxtrot 87 was a Turbo T. T-type is 83-86. It drives me nuts when I see orders coming in as an 87 T-type.

The 245 number is somewhere on the power curve but yes, there was more. I'm sure the fact that the V8 Corvettes were rated at 240 HP had much to do with Buick's conservative number.

Depending on where the boost was at coming out of the factory 12-15# they were rated realistically between 280-310hp... ive seen a bone stock GN make 255 to the rear wheels..

A stone stock GN will make just over 200whp. I know PAS had a TTA 3.8 on an engine dyno back in 1989 and made 300hp and those made 15-16psi stock vs the GN's 14psi. So 270-300hp is realistic.
