I asked this in General Discussion with no luck. Hoping this forum will be better..

I'm sorry for asking a question that has probably been asked but I could not find it in a search - I didn't start my 86 for awhile and at some point the clock stopped working. It's not the fuse and I just put a new battery in. Thoughts? It worked fine before it sat for awhile.

I have a 1979 GP, same problem. Posted same question awhile back. I was told there is a quartz conversion. But it seems limited to borg clocks and i dont know whether our clocks were borg.

Well, started her up this morning and the clock worked. I'm not sure how long that will last. I have been driving the car more lately and I wonder if that has anything at all to do with it.

Thanks for the info on the Quartz conversion. If I ever do it ill do a how to because there is no info anywhere.

Well I did the conversion and the clock runs perfect again. I was going to do a how to but I think if you are smart enough to get the dash apart, you'll be able to do this.

The printed instructions were ok. I would not bother with the extra cost of the instructional DVD. Just take your time and work in a clean area. Lots of small parts.

Did you pull out the entire instrument cluster? If so, was it a pain to dislodge the speedometer cable?

If you just unbolted the clock, can you change the light bulbs this way? Also how long did it take you and how much did the kit cost?

By the way how easy (or hard) is it to take off the bezel? It seems that the plastic bezel can easily snap in half.

No need to pull out the entire cluster so I didn't have to mess with the speedometer.

Once you take the plastic bezel off, the clear plastic gauge covers and black trim around gauges, you can get to the bulbs.

I wouldn't call it hard to take off the bezel, but I was very careful with it. Once you get the screws out, tilt your steering wheel to the lowest position for clearance. Also, my car is column shift so I put it in drive so it was out of the way.

It took me about an hour and a half to do the conversion. The kit costs about 90 bucks.

Hope that helps.
