Went junkyard searching today. Saw a monte carlo ss that had been in a fire. Car is basically destroyed but front sway bar and jounce bars are there and seem to be good. I looked under the rear because it hadnt been burned and it looks to have new shocks, springs, rear sway bar, and a 10 bolt rear end with the fangs. I have a few questions though.

1. Are the spring assisted shocks(coilover type) better than the adjustable ones.

2. Is the rear end worth getting? I know it would be a upgrade from mine. I couldnt tell if it was posi trac because the e brake was stuck.

3. The front sway bar seemed abnormally huge compared to the rear.

I will be going to get the bars and springs tommorrow even if I dont get the rear end.

Depending on the year, it's either a 3.42 or 3.73 rear. It's still a 7.5, but if you're looking to do a gear swap, it might be worth grabbing.

Definately grab the sway bars and jounce bars.

It could be an 8.5 posi. You could pull the diff cover and find out quick.

Fangs tells its a 7.5 which is also all the came in a factory MCSS.

Well I might not get the rear end then. Im going to pick up the bars today. There is another 4 door cutlass with the jounce bars if anybody is interested and a gp with the front bar.

probably wanna grab the GP stuff, they had the preferred stiffeners, etc.

I am interested in the gp front bar if the price is right

If I get it another member already has dibs on it but if he doesnt then your next up. There are also some jounce bars on a 4 door cutlass

i've got those already coming just need the gp bar now

i read that the earlier 83-85 montes had 342 gears and later 86-88 years had 373s,but posi's werent standard but it was a popular option
