Hello all, Im new to the site. Just got a 87 SS monte carlo SS with the original 305 inside of it. Needs a lil body work, and some TLC. I eventually plan on getting a bigger motor but want to do upgrades for now to the 305 till i get all the interior and body work done....Im open for all suggestion as Im new to restoring cars. If you all can give me tips on what to do to a 305 motor I would appreciate it...also my dash is cracking....

Welcome to the forum & nice MC.. How soon do you plan on doing the motor swap? If it's going to be within the next few months/yr, I'd hold off on upgrading the 305 & just do mods to the rest of the car ie brakes, shocks, bushings & exhaust.. What size engine to you plan on dropping in'it?

Most likely a 350 or if I could find something else bigger for cheap...

Hey I cant lie, I come from that generation, but Im not going crazy like that. 😀 I moved to Albany about a year ago...got recruited by some contractors to do some military work. I paid off my truck so I need a hobby. I want to do all black on the interior and black paint on the outside with that stand up spoiler.

Right now the tach on the SS just goes all over the place and the shift indicator doesnt work....Im gonna do spark plugs and wires this weekend..also an oil change and some other tune up stuff.

thats cool..i have family in albany but i haven't been there in a while..im not too far from that generation to be talking b/c i have friends who are part of it as well..keep it classy and keep that ozium in there if you like to ride and burn like we all do..hahahaha

Hey I aint new to it...Im TRUE TO IT!

Welcome from a fellow SS owner! I wouldnt put any money in that 305 but focus on intake and exhaust because all that will switch over to the 350 or 400. I would get some nice full length headers and true dual 2.5" exhaust to start. Good luck
