Long story short I didnt see the car until he brought it to me to fix a trans and oil pan leak. Here is what he was told. The car which is a 85 regal is suppost to have and be the following. Now the guy stated he built and did it all himself.
Suppost to be a 11.40 car
40o sbc 40 over with trw piston
Eagle crank
Eagle rods
RHS alluminum heads 220cc
Comp cams 1.6 roller rockers
630 lift roller cam
Air gap intake
8.5 373 posi
Th350 with stall
6 point cage

Here is what he got
400sbc 30 over trw piston
Stock 400 gm crank
Stock rods
Junk procomp 160cc heads
Cam dynamics 1.5 roller rockers
450 lift flat tappit cam estimated by dial indicator.
It does have the airgap
7.5 373 posi rear
Trans was a 350
The cage is a nicely done 6 point though

Now he has the guy craigslist add and a paper with all the parts that he said was in the motor written by him. Does my buddy have any ground to stand on or is he sol. Everything the guy said is turning out to be a lie. I only know what pistons are because i used a cylinder scope. Same goes for cam looked pushrod hole

Re: What should my buddy do. He was scamed on a car.

Man that is a tough one. I would want to say ya he should have some legal recourse but I don't know. You may want to check with your state law. Is there a bill of sale with any as is crap on it? Your buddy got taken but it was his own ignorance that allowed that. Some stuff is too hard to check but other stuff like rear end and heads could be checked before purchase. I really hope he can get his cash back. Good luck

Yep, the ad can get deleted though, make a screenshot of the ad. Call the police or go in and file a "Fraud Report". The police can charge him with a number of things, depending on your local state laws. Might be enough to get money back.

He has a letter written and signed by the guy stateing engine specs and the rear. Unfortanetly my buddy doesnt know much about motors or what to look for. He did the deal without me there. The bad part it he did a trade plus cash for it and the car he traded was a 87 z28 tubed with a ford 9in needed a motor. But compairing the two the guy who got camaro got the better end of thAt deAl. The back half work on camaro was worth more then the whole regal.

454muscle he was smart and printed the add before it was deleted.

Ya it is shitty all around. I hope he can do something about it. Sucks to be taken like that. Who knows though, maybe the guy who sold it thought it had that stuff in it, of course when you sell something you should know or atleast have an idea of what may be in it.

Yea alot of scumbags now adays. The guy told my buddy he built the motor and put the car together. So he either willingly bs my buddy or he bought the engine and was bs himself. Idk i just hope something good will come out of this.

Re: What should my buddy do. He was scamed on a car.

Print of the craiglist advertisement or screenshot may not suffice for courtroom purposes. If you are considering legal action, a lawyer or law enforcement official need to make the screenshot or print the advertisement out because a 'laymans' word is not considered worth as much in court, obviously.

The problem with screenshot/print ad is that a good computer scammer can easily use a web design program like 'Dreamweaver' and/or a cpu graphics program such as Paintshop pro to easily manufacture a fake 'craigslist' or 'ebay' advertisement in a matter of minutes (less than 5 craigslist  ) because the coding is so basic - its not even asp or php with adobe flashplayer blocking graphics etc. etc.!

therefore, if said punk were to claim in court your 'proof' is fake - it need be that a Law enforcement person or lawyer can testify to "Well, actually I verified the advertisement and it was me who printed this out, so..." etc. etc.

Then he could even face perjury charge in addition to charge 1 of fraud!

so take this info to the bank bro, be prepared for court properly the 1st time and w/o need for 'continuance' after 'continuance' !

+++ good luck - dont use a pd unless you know them personally

Re: What should my buddy do. He was scamed on a car.

To be able to win any case your buddy has to prove that the seller knew that the parts he had listed wasn't in the car.

Re: What should my buddy do. He was scamed on a car.

A police report of this is can be VITAL to any future action. Either way, a threatening letter from an attorney may help the seller to be a bit more responsive.
Good Luck
