I have a small block Chevy, and one of my rocker arm studs was starting to back. I tapped it back in place and was wondering if it was better to drill a hole through the head and stud, and tap a roll pin in to keep it in place. Or will rocker arm stud girdles work just as good, if not better.

Well, I think the best fix would be having your heads modified for screw in studs but that would require you taking your heads to a machine shop and having it done properly, if the engine is in the car I suppose you could pin the offending stud but I would be leary of drilling anything on an assembled engine.

Buy saying you taped it back in. Do you mean you have screw in studs or you simply tapped it back on with a hammer? If you dont have screw in studs and are running a performance cam with higher spring pressure press in studs are a no no. You need to have them removed and heads machine for screw in studs. A stud girdle isnt going to fix the problem either way. A stud girdle simply keeps you from breaking a stud and keeps everything in check.

I appreciate the info, I was reffering to press in stud and I just tapped it back in with a hammer. I think I'll just take them to a machine shop and have screw in studs put in.
