Hey gents, I want to purchase long tube headers for my upcoming project car, a 1980 Cutlass with a 350 swap.

What options do I have when it comes to long tubes?

Painted will do just fine. I don't really care about rusted headers no matter how ugly they look

Flowtech is the cheapest you can buy...but I do recommend ceramic coated to prolong their life. What engine are you swapping? Chevy or Olds?

He has an Olds and is posting this in the Cutlass section of the forums. Obviously he's talking about a Chevy engine.

S.Ghayeb, this topic is brought up like once a week ( or so it seems ). A search on these forums will bring up all the info you'll need. Just pick the set you want to spend the money on. Buy the best ( American Racing ) and get the best but they'll cost you accordingly. Buy cheapos and you'll get cheap but they're lighter on the wallet.

It already has a SBC 350 installed. I plan on swapping the heads for some 206cc Vortec heads modified for higher lift.

I checked SUMMIT for 1980 Cutlass before creating the thread, but not sure which one I would need for my setup, so many options available on the website.

Part numbers would help, especially for best fitment for oil filter access, ground clearance etc

Sometimes asking people with experience is better than using filters on a website to choose what works best.

Help a NOOB out guys! :bump:

You have all those headers to choose from ( with part numbers ) shown in your link and the search function here on these forums. What else exactly do you need to know?

I just want to know which ones have the best fitment and have decent clearance. Tried, tested and proven is all i ask for 🙂

Mass produced headers by the big header manufactures will never be consistant on how they will fit. For every person who says brand X fit's like a glove there will be someone who's had nothing but problems with the same brand X. Some brands may fit good more often than others though. As I posted above, do a search and you can read peoples first hand accounts of 'brand X' and you can decide for yourself which headers seem to have the least amount of fitment suckage.

My limited experience with G bodies, long tubes require some finess to get it. I have used Flow techs in a 1980 Malibu wagon I had years ago, and it took a while to get them in. I scratched the hell out of the paint on the drivers side because i was frustrated, but they were OK fit and finish, they just don't last too long if your car sits a lot or unless you paint them once a year.

I only had that car a year, so it wasn't a big deal to me.

The questions I want answered, is how do people account for the drivers side header pointing straight at the trans crossmember? do you have a funky bent pipe or simply flatten the crossmember (which is really hack!)?

The cutlass I am getting has manifolds with header back 3" exhaust, and someone along the line has 5lb sledge hammered the cross member for clearance, but I would like to fix it correctly and put headers on it.
