I need recommendations for a set of headers that fit properly. I purchased a set of Dynomax #86121 headers and the right side header hit the transmision flange. I returned them and got Hooker Header #520-2351-1. These fit the right side but now the left side nearly hits #3 spark plug. Couldn't remove the plug without header removal and spark plug boot won't go on. This is not a good fit.

Anyone have a set that works for them?

I bought a set of Dynomax headers 6 years ago when I first swapped in the SBC in my 442, and they fit really nice. Now they are on my '83 wagon and they fit great again. They are the only set of headers (out of dozens I've installed) I've not had to modify in some way.

When you say that they hit the transmission flange, do you mean on the bellhousing or near the ears for the inspection cover mounts?

Yes. They hit the flange just behind the starter. The #2 tube seems to be routed incorrectly. It needs to roll toward the outside as it enters the collector. If they were painted headers I would have just rerouted that tube, but since they were ceramic coated I didn't want to mess them up.

I have a set of Doug Thorley Tri-Y's on my '79. Only problem with them, the #6 plug is hard, if not impossible, to change.

You might try Street & Performance, they make headers that fit G-body cars. My 2 cents.

I've been considering putting headers on my 84 as well. But I've been told its kinda a waste of time on my 305ci,because it wont make much difference in performance, etc. Is this true,or not?

I put headers on my 305and they helped. Use 1 5/8 primaries because bigger than that will negade any of the lowend you would gain. Back it up with a good 2.25 exhaust and she should run fine.

Im running a set of hedman hedders, and they fit pretty good. But i am running an olds engine.
I myself have always prefered hedman over other hedders.

I have an earlier Olds 350,76 maybe, in my 78 Olds Cutlass. But an original 305 in my 84 Elky

What type of starter do you have?
