what heads would be the best to replace my 5a heads on 84 307 so i can a little more kick out of this motor the only reason i want to build this motor is i want to keep this car as close to stock as possible but still have some fun with this car !!!!

I cant speak from experience here but the later model 307's use 7A heads with roller lifters and cam with roughly .440 lift.

If you grabbed some 7A heads and used a mild cam with bigger lift and roller lifters and some headers you might be able to squeeze 225+ hp out of the engine. this would be an expensive procedure for a 307 for truly a minimal gain. your best bet to maximize your power for a decent buck would just make sure it is working as good as new. just a good tuneup with new wires/plugs and a proper working fuel system.

I just cant see dumping the money into the 307 even for originality's sake.the 350's and 403's are supposed to be externally the same so if you not selling the car just go for the easier power. if you wanted to dump a cam and heads at these engines, your buck would actually be worth your effort.

In stock cast, you're not really going to gain much by putting a set of heads on it. You would be better off having someone do some extensive port work to your heads. Then upgrade your camshaft and intake (or have port work done to the intake as well) Then modify your quadrajet to run correctly with the upgrades

...ask "Randy_W" about his upgrades viewtopic.php?f=3&t=34223

if your 307 is a 84 you have the 5A heads and they are better then the 7A.
get the 5A heads ported.match that with a edelbrock intake some headers and a good cam shaft. and you will have a hot 307.
