I guess I get to go buy a new heater core for the 85....some vapor started blowing from the vents....yay for me changing it this weekend. Was going to go to the local pullapart and get some small items (brackets for the 200-4R, ac compressor or a non-ac alternator bracket, etc some small stuff I need for the 87 to proceed)...but I guess I'll have to buy the core and some sealant instead..... 😢

when you take the core out check the solder around the in and out tubes. They cheap out on the solder and alot of times that is where it starts leaking. I has to resolder the tube on mine that is less than a year old cause the tube fell off when I tried to remove a heater hose

A new heater core should only be about $25, and it only takes an hour or two to replace.
Yes, I have found some in the mid-$20 range, but I haven't done it before so I figure it will take a little longer to do for that reason. I don't see it as too complicated, I just haven't physically done it.

pontiacgp, thanks for the head's up. I will check it out.

I say that I can't do the pullapart thing, too, because of the money. It's very tight for us, and even the small things cost a lot right now. Wife and kids get taken care of before the projects....I usually use the 85 as one of our DD's, so it needs fixing before the parts for the 87 are bought.

what about just bypassing the heater core for now if the money is tight...join one hose to the other with an adapter

Stay away from junkyard cores. I used to do that, but never had good luck with them lol.

No, I wouldn't trust one. I just bypassed it for now.....it's already in the 90's here, so I think I can do without heat for a little while.
