Hello everyone. I'm 20, and I live in Boston, but for now I go to school in Pittsburgh, PA for car design. The first G body I bought was a '78 Regal in 2008 after I sold my Mitsubishi. I was lucky enough to get one that had no body rust and few frame issues. My family hated it, and everyone told me it was a waste of money, but I couldn't have cared less because it was fun to drive and there were few other cars on the road that were like it. The cops weren't very fond of it, since it had straight pipes with turnouts 😀 . I've been working on it little by little since I've been at college, getting it back to roadworthy condition after sitting for 2 years.

In 2009 I bought an '87 Monte Carlo SS that was intended to replace the Regal after countless hours upon hours of nagging from my family. However, I really couldn't bring myself to part with the car, and realizing how expensive it would be to getting the Monte roadworthy (I didn't want to halfass it), I decided I may as well use the Regal as a driver while I accumulate the funds for the other. I also figured if I was going to take my time with the Monte, I may as well build something really cool, I.E. something along the lines of a Pro-Tourer.

Anyway, its cool to be in a place with other like-minded individuals 🙂

i live in the pittsburgh area, and i have not seen one other 78' regal besides mine on the road. Not even in junkyards around here there arent any.
Good luck with the projects!

Actually I saw a '78 or '78 regal in a junkyard on West Carson street in Pittsburgh... if you know where that is. I haven't yet had the time to look at it. Maybe it'll have the ever-so-elusive bumper fillers that I need?? Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome.

nice someone else in the area... the ss looks real cleen

I love that Monte Carlo man... Looks clean. What are your plans for it? Engine, drive train, suspension, already got plans or just going to make it up as you go along.

One thing where's the radio? And what did you make that dash from? That's pretty cool. I want to redo the dash in my firebird and I'm either going to try to find a proper Trans Am dash or make my own so I can have all the gauges in there instead of stock speedo, column mounted tach, and a three gauge pod under the radio.

The guy I bought the car from ran it as a bracket car (i think it was running somewhere in the 12's or 13's, but I'm not certain). There is no radio and the HVAC is taken out (it has the HVAC delete panel and the cowl filler panel). I'm not sure what I'll do about that. I should have mentioned that its merely a rolling chassis right now (and a damn good one I might add). As for the drivetrain, I have a regular old goodwrench 350 crate motor from my uncle's plow truck that I'm hoping to use as a core for a motor build-up. I might be thinking a little above my limit, but I think it would be awesome to build it into a twin turbo 383 😀 . I also hope to convert it to a 5-speed. Nothing wrong with deaming i guess.
