hey everyone, i'm James all the way from Melbourne, Australia
i've got a 1978 Regal Coupe Limited lowrider project, 3.8lt V6.

hope to get some info and make some contacts for parts, as australia has got none at all!

i'll post some pics up soon.

Welcome. Parts? Becoming scarce around here also, but they are still findable. Glad to have u here and I'd love to see pics of the right hand drive conversion. I've only seen one other and it used a chain under the dash to transfer the steering to the left side. Strange, I know. I've seen some on TV where gear boxes and all are swapped over to the right side. If u have pics, I'd like to see them. Thanks

i can get some photo's this week sometime for you,
mine has got a new steering box sourced from a local car, installed on the right hand side, and there has been a new steering shaft made up to suit.

brake pedal has a bar that just goes behind the dash which connect back up to the standard booster and master cyl, because there is no where to relocate them too.

accelerator and brake pedals still arent in the right position yet, i really need to lower the floor on the RHD to make it work alot better.

i posted pics up in the pictures section you can see the dash, but i'll get some of the steering etc soon. 8)

What parts are you looking for?I go junkyarding with regularity and may be able to offer some assistance if I could figure out shipping and billing. I see many G bodies in the 4 local self serve yards I go to, plus I also have a small collection of parts and pieces I keep for my own car, some are left over V6 parts I no longer need because I swapped my 3.8 for a 350 Chevy V8 years ago.Interior parts are the hardest to find, but some are being reproduced ( although your interior looks beautiful so I doubt you need anything big for it).If you ever have serious engine trouble you may wish to consider this swap as I believe the 350 was a stock engine in some Holdens and parts would be easier to find. You would need G or F body ( maybe even B body)305 Chevy engine mounts to bolt it in, and could probably use mostly Australian parts to do the rest of the swap.

welcome

my V6 has seen better days, its running ok at the moment so i'll keep it untill it dies, i dont want to spend any money on it apart from general servicing, i was planning on putting in a 350, seems pretty simple going by what you say,

only our first holden monaro's back in 68 i think came out with 327's and then the next model monaro had a 350, dont quote me on that though.

other than that we have only had 308 holden V8s, but sourcing a 350 crate motor is easy done here.

parts i need so far that i can think of is a new complete grille, i havnt been able to find someone who does plastic chroming here, as my current one has been painted gold by the previous owner, i'd like to get a complete front and rear bush kit (suspension rebuild kit, i'm not sure what they are called), a stock steering wheel or a nice after market one with boss kit (all our boss kits are completely different) a stock radio, doesnt have to work, just look nice 😀

umm what else..
the rear 1/4 window chrome surround and rubber
only interior trim bits i need is the "B" pillars, the sun has got to them and are falling apart! a pair of sunvisors umm i think thats it!

also, is there suposed to be a gear selector needle or something, ive got the part on the guage that says "PRND21" but nothing to show what its on, i need something for my aus compliance.

i can organise payment through paypal if you have that, just let me know if any parts you'll be able to get, i appriciate your help! 8)

For the suspension rebuild kit there are several sources here in the US that would probably be able to help you as it is a commonly done project. Try "Just Suspension", "Performance Suspension Technology" , "Kanter's"," Summit Racing Equipment", "Year One" or Jeg's for the suspension. Grant would offer a steering wheel for the original Saginaw built steering column etc. For the PRNDL indicator it sounds like they did not hook up the wire that comes out of it and clips to the steering column to move it when it is shifted.I will look around and see if I can find a grille or the trim next time I am in the junkyard. I may also be able to find a stock style radio as I believe it will be a common part used in millions of GM cars built before 1983 when they switched to a 1.5 DIN unit. Oh, you may also want to look at Steele Rubber Products for weatherstripping as they seem to offer some of the more obscure pieces. The B pillar trim you need for the interior is going to be difficult to find as they are usually sun dried and scratched beyond usefulness. I have 2 sets for my Cutlass but they are different because of the year. If I find the stuff I will send you a private message on the forum with the price I would want to go pull all the stuff and to cover the price of the parts. Yes we do have Paypal by the way, and I was thinking about using it if I did this in order to deal with the currency exchange. (Who knows, I may even consider doing this as a side business if there's some money in it!) As for the 350, I remember reading several years ago that GM had shipped the old Suburban tooling to Holden to sell there and with it the stuff to make 350's as they were the engine in those trucks. I may be wrong though as I am only going off memories from 10 years ago.

actually yes your right about the suburbans, i forgot they had them here a few years back!

thanks for all the help! i'll checkout those sites.

No luck so far this week, all I saw in G bodies that old were a few Cutlasses, an El Camino and a Monte or two but no Regals.

no worries, thanks for keeping an eye out 8)
