Hey all im from the Philly area and i am considering buying a 85 442 with only 42,000 documented miles, its in full primer,307cid,200r4 it was white with grey at the bottom, T-Top car.any one have any comments on the car pro`s cons ..options.. any help would be appreciated! thanks oh and the dash is shot.. do they make them repro?

pros-looks badass, lots of potential,t tops are sweet and of course you have the chick magnet factor 8) everyone knows girls like cutlasses the most out of the gbody family ha

cons-its a 307!!

where are you located in pa btw... i live around teh richboro/churchville area in bucks county

Hey, I live in Bensalem..not far from you..its a decent enough car( i think my wife wouldnt like me calling it a chick magnet tho lol) i have another motor for it but not sure if i want to tear apart such a low mileage car.. thanks for the in put!

sounds like a good buy i would get it and WELCOME~!

If the price is right and u like it, I say go for it. But becarefull about the t-tops they have a tendency to rot out big time. But on the plus side they sell replacement parts. And I have to disagree with u on the Cutty thing Women Love the looks and lines of the SS Monte.

The reason its in full primer is that it sat for 10 years in a garage and the paint was shot so it was cleaned up and set in primer and now sits in a garage again lol..car is extremely solid top to bottom as ive looked at the car a few times and im going to look at it again today.Luckily a friend has it and has a few other cars as well so its cool to keep going back..

The dash is not available new, it must be either sourced used or recovered by a company like Just Dashes. Depending on the car though, it sounds like an excellent candidate for a project as it is likely highly optioned and has the good rear axle that everyone who has a G body wishes they could find. I would consider changing the engine though if you really intend on having good performance numbers. Since it already has Olds mounts and accessories I would consider a mild Olds 350 or Olds 403 from the late 70's for your starting point. Add aluminum heads, a decent cam, intake, headers and reasonable compression and you'd have a very fun car!

i was considering that..i have a 357 chevy motor i am building for my 88 formula and thought a carbed version instead for the 442 but with such a low mileage original car im having doubts about tearing it apart..

So long as you keep it Olds powered, you can keep it stock looking under hood without dealing with the horrible stock 307's lack of anything resembling acceleration. My car was Buick V6 powered, so I did a stock appearing 350 Chevy swap, but you basically need to change everything under the hood if going for a stock look with a Chevy.
