hi there i have a 86 cutlass 305 with a th350 the trans is toast i have a th200 but i am unsure which converter i need is there a different converter for v6 and v8 cars

I believe the th2004r had a different converter from the th200 metric transmission which mostly came with the v6 cars.I not intirely sure of this info,but what i do know is that oldsmobile mixed it up a little and put th200 metrics behind some 307 v8 cars and th2004r's behind v6 cars.

im trying to use it with a 305 the problem im running into is that the converter is to far from the flywheel the fly wheel is from a th350 but should be the same it has 156 teeth or some such

what's stopping the converter from sliding out to the flexplate?

I would ask someone who works at a transmission shop, see if they can pull up a part number, i know 350/400 share the same converter but the 200????? so that may be your best bet before you trash another transmission
