help hooking up factory tach??

ok i have an 84 cutlass cialias which was a v6 car and now has a chevy 350 in it (bought the car this way)
it has an accel distributor with battery and tach hookups and as seen in the picture but i have nothing going into the tack side.
when the key is in the on position the tach goes to 1,000 rpm but when its started it jumps then goes to 0 and does nothing at all, is this tach hooked up somewhere else or what?
also have a white wire coming from firewall on drivers side going to nothing? (see Pic) could this be the tach hookup?/
im lost

I know there is a jumper on the back of the tach gauge that people say you have to change (or add) when you swap engines. I am not sure if the engine rotation direction will affect anything or not.

Direction of rotation is irrelevant. You do need to change from 6 cyl to 8 cyl on the tach. There's still something else wrong, however, because even with the tach set for 6 cyl, it should still work, just read incorrect RPMs.
 
The white wire could very well be the lead from the tach to the distributor terminal indicated "tach".
