ok i have a 85 cutlass supreme. today i pull my paking brakes in ,the brake light coming on but when i let them go the light stay on. this is the first time it has happen. and when i say the paking brakes i mean the E-Brakes . do anybody no wat goin be for i take it to a shop please let me know thank you

The foot lever on the parking brake assembly might not fully released, try pulling out the brake release and then lifting up on the pedal.
The parking brake assembly can get rusty, use some grease or libricant on the parking brake assembly to help the pedal release.

It's quite common for the pedal to not activate the brake light switch. Try pulling up on the pedal while pulling the release handle to see if the light goes out. If this is the case, you may be able to adjust the switch or maybe the return spring is weak.

I'm with 81Regal on this one. You may have a cable that is rusty enough to stick. Try to lube it and see oif it frees up.

If it's not the E brake, check the master cylinder if it is full and has clean fluid in it, also look if there is any leaking brake lines or wheel cylinders.

The first time I stepped on the parking brake pedal in the Cutlass it went down and never came back up. That and the parking brake wasn't on either. Strange, even though everything was still connected and all. The brake light was on all the time until I replaced the cables, now it is working again.
