help question on posi rear end

Found a rear im interested buying he says it out of 83 ss monte ,with auburn 343 gears is that a 8.5 if it came out of a ss?

No Montes never came with the 8.5s. The only way its and 8.5 is if it was put in there by someone else. If its stock it will be the 7.5

Thanks i wasnt sure ,that sucks but thanks i thought i heard the ss,hurst ,areo coupe,and national all came with 8.5 but still thinking about it 350 dollars for it not to bad and i wont have to try to put a posi unit in my 7.5

Nope just the '84 hurst, 1985-87 442, And gn of course.

For $350 thats a decent deal you got there. The 3.42s are a good all around gear so you will be happy if you get it. The Monte SS's had 3.42 7.5"s (83-84) and 3.73 7.625"s (85-88). I would definatley pay the $350 instead of messing around with setting a rear up.
