I recently removed the 327 from my Monte. It had brand new dual exhaust from the manifolds back put on a little over a year ago. The engine lacked power and oil practically poured out from it. After removing it to clean it up and put in new gaskets. I decided to put on some vortec heads I had lying on my bench. I did not realize the the vortec heads don't have the 7 bolt exhaust flange! Could I just leave out the last bolt on the passenger side on the #8 cylinders exhaust flange? I don't like headers that much and I would rather not have to have the exhaust redone again. I know these log manifolds aren't the best, but it's what I have.

It's going to leak. You can get Vortec manifolds and use those, junkyards sell them cheap. It's what I would use for Vortec heads.

Nice engine color, is that copper?

That's not at all what I want to hear! I.m sure the pipes from the manifolds will have to be redone and welded to the rest of the exhaust. These heads better be worth it! Yes it is copper. I was gonna go with a bronze but the parts store was out and I'm really happy with this VHT Burnt Copper.

What's the best headers for our cars? The last ones that came with my old cutlass didn't clear the shifter linkage and hit everywhere. Which are the best fit and have the best corrosion resistance. I'm thinking of just running headers if I can't run my manifolds.

I think some members here like Flowtech headers.

Changing to Vortec manifolds isn't the end of the world, the exhaust would need to be modified but not completely redone. It's not a big deal.

It may not be a big deal,,but to someone who may be on a tight budget it could be,,,i never had my elky on the rack and spent less than 100 bucks,,,jus sayin,,,good luck,,keep us updated ,,,

I ran into the same problem so I used headers I had laying around. My only other option was to tap a new hole :? Sorry I'm not much help

I think I might get the Flow Tech headers. They aren't too expensive and since I have dual exhaust that runs where the collectors should end up. That way I can cut the pipes off there and weld on the collector flange. Hopefully it will be as easy as that. At worst I might have to have the pipes bent just a tad to line up with the headers.

I have the Flowtech full length headers on mine. No fitment issues here they went in quick and painless but the rust is getting to them. They have been on since August of 2010 and are pretty rusty. The paint burned off them in about 20 minutes total run time 🙁 But for the price and easy install it was worth it

I have to do everything on a tight budget and there's doing things cheaply and doing things too cheaply. Cars are not a hobby you want to go too cheap on. Otherwise find another hobby.
