I think some members here like Flowtech headers.

Changing to Vortec manifolds isn't the end of the world, the exhaust would need to be modified but not completely redone. It's not a big deal.

The other problem would be dealing with the egr tube off the vortec manifold and any clearance problems they might create.

A plug solves that problem.

I think it would need a cap, it looks almost like a JIC fitting, unless that comes out. Been awhile since I looked at one. More concerned with whether the extra meat where it goes in would cause any interference issues. Looks like it is in a good spot though. If I had to spend money, i'd rather have headers anyway though.

The guy sad he didn't like headers (why ) suggested Vortec manifolds)and if I wind up building the 350 I have I'll be using Vortec heads and the manifolds they put on them. I strongly doubt there are interference issues, his are logs above the spark plugs, Vortec manifolds run along under the spark plugs. IMO this would be more desirable for the wires running to them. The vortec manifolds also have heat shields so that helps the boots on the plugs. At my local pull a part, exhaust manifolds are 25 bucks a piece, headers are going to cost twice that to start and if he wants good ones we're looking at 150, not including the extra modification to the exhaust system for headers over the manifolds even if they needed to be modified for them.

Looking at the pics of Vortec manifolds and looking at his the exits are about in the same place and angle, they should work and will be 2-3 times cheaper than headers but he said he doesn't care for them. I'm giving a cheap suggestion that should suffice for his needs. If he wants and can't find any locally, I'll pull a set for him. I'll only ask he pay what I paid for them plus the cost of shipping without a thin dime for my time. I know what it feels like to turn wrenches on a budget and I think I need to go to the yard anyway so it's no big deal to me.

I already have too much money into it and i have spent too much time as well too go too cheap i agree. How do the vortec manifolds join up with the pipes? It looks to be flat and the manifolds i have are different. I had a terrible time even finding the heads in the first place. I had to get them from a place two hours from where i live. I never thought about asking to buy the manifolds. I still need to clean up and paint my engine bay, get a new balancer, alternator, intake manifold, plugs and wires. I'm not in a rush, I still have a couple sleds that arent ready yet and the trails are open. Also my four wheeler needs all new tires! I'm not short on projects, but i am on money. I'm gonna assume ram horn exhaust manifolds wont't work on our cars. ??? I see there is chevy II style that angles back a little. I thought I seen someone running ram horns in a G once on this site. Anyone know anything about that? I'll get ahold of the local scrap yard and see if they have something.

Thanks G_Body_enthusiast. I might need your help. I'll ask around and see if i can find some around here first.

No need to feel you need to defend your opinion. I was just looking at any other complications that could arise from going that route. Personally I hate manifolds, so I tend to lean towards headers anyway. My fitment concerns stem not just from the egr tube but the last set of 88-95 (yes I know not vortec but they are in the same body style truck)manifolds I looked at I think will hit the steering column. They look to set themselves pretty far outward from the engine. Again it may clear fine but it's something to think about. That said you want to recommend he buy something that he can't return that may not work, that goes against my definition of budget. I know someone on this board put a complete Vortec 350 in their g body but I think they used headers. Now was that because of personal preference or did the manifolds not work?

The driver side has the egr tube. I honestly have no idea if they fit or not. If they do great, but it would be nice if he can find a set to try first or if someone has used them for sure.

doesn't matter, he only mentioned the passenger side manifold giving him a problem, he could replace just that one.
