Hey guys. New to the forums. Just bought a 84 monte ss. Has the 305 ho. Noticed that there were alot of wires cut and not beong used. So now am trying to figure out whats even in use anymore. And what everythings for. It looks like the PO swapped to a non CC quadrajet. And tried to remove the ecm. Not 100%. But o have this mess to deal with. And found a toggle switch under the dash. Wich i assume would of been for the transmission lock up.. Just need to no what to do withthis mess. Should i just pull the computer completly or is it still in use.

If you do decide to remove the ECM the harness can be completely removed from the engine and transmission and not affect the heater/fan or gauges.
That harness unplugs from the ecm then feeds back though the firewall. As butchered as the harness looks I would pull it out.
Don't know what that toggle switch is for, may be for the lockup as you mentioned or a kill switch by the colors of the wires.

See non computerized carb but computerized distributor. You have marginal performance and crappy economy now. Consider HEI distributor with a vacuum advance to start

Yeah vac advance dist. Was my next step if the harness wasnt salvagble. Didnt want to remove the computer completly. But it seems like the only thing its really contolling right now is the distributor. There is a yellow/ black connector coming from the ecm harness and going to the thermostat. And another going to the other harness that comes from the firewall. Just not to sure what to do with those. Lol such a mess.... Thanks for the replies guys. Appreciate it. Car was kind of sluggish. Wanted to die at stop signs a few times.

looks like you have your hands full. If you want to keep the CCC its not going to hurt anything but will take some time and effort to get it working again.

If you want to remove it follow the harness down to the bottom of the firewall on the PS. I notice the wheelwell is missing so it will be easy. I would then remove all the wires and related sensors and push them back up thru that grommet in the firewall. Try not to cut the wires and place it all in a box. I am willing to bet that some time in the near future these kind of parts will become very very scarce ( hence valuable ) to guys restoring their cars or trying to keep them stock. You can unplug the sensors in the thermostat housing or replace it with one from an older non-electronic engine

Removing the CCC will require non-electronic distributor and carburetor. Lockup for the trans can be controlled via a toggle switch for simplicity or you can buy an aftermarket setup. You lose nothing but the lockup function by removing the computer. Also will need to pull the check engine bulb from the dash
