I want to put 22's on my 84 Cutlass Supreme Brougham 4dr. I want to put new shocks on it so it sits a little higher. I want stock replacement shocks. Will new shocks raise my car 1" or will I need to get new springs too? I would rather only replace one suspension part due to budget.

Shocks will not raise the car, you will either need lift spindles for the front and springs for the rear. Or you need springs front and rear to raise the car.

Then I'm going to replace the springs. I read that new springs will prevent nose-diving when braking. Is this true?

Yes. I've already told you that if you want to get bigger wheels, you need to replace the springs AND shocks first. You don't won't to hit a speedbump or pothole and cut up your tires or scratch your rims. If you're gonna do it, it's best to do it right the first time. You don't need any lift at all. With nearly 30 yr old springs and shocks, your car is not sitting at its stock ride height.

I wouldn't recommend that steel blocks crap either. I don't even like the twist-in ones that they sell at the autoparts stores.

^Yeah really. I moved to NC a few years ago, there aren't any donks up north, but the first time I saw all the steel blocks at a car show I was speechless, why anyone I would do that I don't know.

There are quite a few nice Donks up north. Dudes up there are still more into the high-end luxury whips though. Most guys in the game for real know that a Donk can fit up to 28" wheels w/no lift.

Yeah there are a few here and there up north, but there are a lot more Lex's and Merc's that are tucked on 22's and above. NC they are just everywhere, not really a big fan of them but sometimes I do have to respect the body and paint work that goes into some of the donks.
