Hi my name is Eli I'm 24 and I recently took away 1 of my dads grand nationals . I have an 87 buick gn with ttops It was parked for so long it wouldn't start now it does but it has a really rough idle and I was looking for some help thanks

idk if this will apply for you but what i did for my 83 bonneville was change all the cracked/cracking vacuum lines and cleaned the carb with some carb cleaner runs a little healthier now

Thanks jlop3s91 I did that over the weekend and same misfire. I jumped the pin to make the engine light flash today I got code 33 and I also started hearing like a arcing noice coming around the coil area could it be a bad coil or wire and do the control module on these cars go bad at all . Any input would be good

Thanks Eli

Hello,

If you think you have arcing, an old school trick you can do is check the engine running at night in the dark. It will make seeing the arcs a lot easier.

You can take a spray bottle/mister and spray it over the engine first to help with the arcing

Thanks husrtolds ill try that today and Black442 I'm just happy to be part of this forum. And dogshit I looked in those and tryed posting in turbo buicks but it doest let me...

Thanks Eli

Welcome! good luck with the car!

First welcome to the forum.

Second, I agree with Hurstolds, if you're hearing arcing around the coil pack area (if I'm not mistaken it should be one coil pack instead of the 3 individual packs) you may have a crack in the pack and the voltage is jumping to ground. A lot of time the pack would go bad due to the heat and old age and you'd get a miss / stumble. It's been awhile but I think there is a "module" that is part of the pack and believe the whole unit is replaced when it goes "bad". Off topic but the Quad 4s were notorious for this, develop a crack in the housing and the voltage would jump to ground and that little 4-banger would shake like a bad blender.

This will also be mimicked by a bad plug wire, in terms of the possible arching noise or bad plug with the miss only. I would pull the plug wires one by one and check them for cracks, brittleness and the like. If it's been sitting up a really long time they may need to be changed anyway but you don't want to just throw parts at it. Also, how fresh is the fuel / filter?

Just be careful testing this, those coil packs kick out a lot of voltage!!

Oh, don't forget pics.

First thanks guys for all the help
Second the coil was bad it was cracked in the Bottom but it didn't fix the problem I had a buddy of mine look at it that has a turbo T and told me its off timing and my vacuum lines r wrong so that's a good thing that's it is nutting serious lol again thank u guys for everything

Pics wold be up soon

Thanks Eli
