I have a 86 cutlass and my hi temmp light keeps comming on and then going out. Its about 94 degrees on agverage here so i understand my car is going to run hotter. so after about a 10 - 15 minute drive my hi temp light will come on for about 2 minutes. I acknowlege, try to get to my destination in a casual fashion, and the light goes out. So now about 5 minutes down the road the light will repeat that about 2 more times. now wen the lights comes on its stays on for +5 minutes so if i think i cant make it before i damage the engine i may pull over, check my fluid. and sit until it goes out. my fluid needs to be changed i kno but im trying to figure out where to start. the thermostat, the fan clutch, or maybe the sending unit. if you kno anything about this please let me kno.

Also I plan to put a dual fan on it out of a newer car tht i may have to wire up so tht the fan runs constantly. can a fan tht runs constantly be better or worst for a engine?

86 cutlass
22's
duals 40 series flows (coming soon-have all parts)
halo 10k hids headlights

A fan that runs constantly could only make it run cooler. I would replace the coolant temp switch for the light and see if that is just faulty first, should be like $6. A thermostat would be your next move, I would run a 180* thermostat. A 160* thermostat sound good, but it can actually hurt in a hot climate because it may not get a chance to close.

ok, thanks. Also is wiring an electric fan to run constantly good or bad? -Not related to the light issue-

wut i mean is if i want my engine to operate at a cooler temp because of the constant running fan, is tht good or bad?

You can run it straight from the battery but it isn't recommended. You would have to run it through a toggle so you can cut it off, otherwise it'll be on all the time, even if the car isn't on. It would be recommended to wire it up correctly with atleast a relay though.
