There is a mint 83 Elco that came up from Cali to Toronto in 1990. It was a diesel / 400 car when we got it. Then 454/400, then 305/400. It has switched hands between 4 of us friends now. In '98 the current owner swung in a home-built 350 & 4 speed swap. When rod knock hit in 2000 the car got pulled off the road for a 2 year frame-on overhaul. He replaced the 350 with a 350 Crate motor plus cam and fast burn heads, TKO 6 speed, 8.5 rear. Then a full body strip and paint. Re-chromed bumpers, interior gut and update, brakes done, the works. All this was done at his Dads shop. His dad ( a home schooled auto tech that I learned 99.9% of my auto skills from) got to drive it a couple times but unfortunately he was sick when we were all building it. Ended up his dad passed in 2005, the shop parted out and the car has pretty much sat since. Last summer with fresh gas and battery it fired up but ran like crap and farted all around the block. He left 50' of rubber in an industrial area by his house then it got put away again. It sits in his garage and I know it would drive his old mans nuts knowing that it sits. So in front of my friends worktruck, taking up half of the garage of his quiet ( well alarmed I may add ) Toronto home is this little monster of a beautiful el camino. You can kind of see it in the background of some of the shots when we swung the motor in my car. But as he never opens that half of the garage I am sure that there are very few of us that know its there.
