I wonder how these would look on my 442? Should set off all that gold 442 striping nicely and I think I could fab some 442 centers. This would also allow for the C5/C6 conversion.

Well, no big secret that the SSIIIs were VERY poorly made. I have to find someone that can still spin balance tires "on the car" because the wheel centers are out of round in relation to the lug holes. I've got one wheel that we just static balance only it is so bad. And, obviously the tire choices are less than desirable. Sad putting a T rated tire on your baby cuz that is all you can get.

Move up to these 17s and it opens up ALL kinds of possibilities but I do lose that factory [sleeper] look I kinda like.

This may, or may not help, but here is a picture I took of a grand national that has these wheels on it. They look good in my opinion by they aren't the size or color you are thinking of.

Those do look good. Thanks for posting

Not to the top of my mod pile yet but, if I continue to have balance problems with the SSIIIs, I may grab a set.

Those gold rims are overpriced. It only takes a few weeks of driving around before the gold looks scuffed. They will look fantastic - for like a week. The black ones are awesome and take a long time to start 'getting old' like the ss3's did on you. Go for longevity. Don't replace rims that 'got old' with rims that are going to 'got old' in a year or two again lol. And consider running a 16'' and saving dozens on tires. The extra inch going 17 makes my cutty rub on turns. Not worth the extra inch. I have to buy spacers now and I only have 7.5 width not even full 8. The 8 is better on MC not Cutlass which I like 7.5 width + 1.25 billet spacer. I've had 79mc and Cutlass there is a slight difference between the stance trust this! You can't even use over 7.5 up front on cutlass without the spacing, you would mess up the camber and be 'scraping'. If you get 16x7.5 you won't even need spacers though. That is what I wish I would have done instead of going for the extra inch. 17x7.5 +1.25 spaced is going to look badass but as you said once you do it the 'factory sleeper' look is gone. The car looks way different w the wheels tucked closer to the fender lip and a fat lip rip. Two totally different looks so study both looks before you decide.

Sorry, wasn't getting updates on this thread for some reason . . .

No, I will keep my SSIIIs forever.

I still have the original 307, original transmission, radiator, cross member, exhaust, and all the other misc. parts I have taken off in case someone [after I am dead and gone] wants to actually take out a 400HP/500lb.ft. motor and return it all to its original 180HP condition.

And, my SSIIIs don't look bad at all. They all have a problem with the center not being concentric with the mounting holes so they won't spin balance worth a damn. I managed to find 2 new ones many years ago and they were the same way. One wheel we have to static balance only. Or find someone that still can spin balance tires "on the car".

But, I REALLY want to get some better tread on this beast than the S-rated BFG junk I have on it now. Unfortunately, that means larger diameter - lower profile and new wheels . . .
