So i'm about to replace my 5th Flexplate, awesome.
I've actually memorized the sizes of every bolt to remove the transmission, Thats how many times i've had to take it out of the car, in such a short period of time.

But more importantly, i feel like a total Genuine Jackass. So i learned that you CAN put a flexplate in, backwards :wtf: Most of you already know where this story is going.

I'm pretty much certain i put the last one in backwards, How can i tell which way it's supposed to be facing? It's a 153 tooth Externally balanced Flexplate (The weight is welded to one side of it), Which way should it be facing?

On a side note, this explains why Shimming the starter in everyway possible wouldn't stop it from grinding when the engine starts, it would engage just fine without a problem, but as soon as the engine starts it would sound like i held in the key for too long, even though i didn't, everytime.

your starter isn't disengaging properly which means you have it spaced wrong or it's the wrong flexplate or starter (or it's something wrong w/ your starter)

it's simple if you think about it, the raised mounting holes point toward the converter:

^ this side faces the trans.

what's funny is that i have the same problem. however i purposely tried to mount the flexplate backwards and couldn't.
