I have a 350 engine that I've recently finished rebuilding, and I put a GM Performance Ram Jet intake on it, now at this point I am worried about clearance. Anyone no how much clearance I would have from the top of the block to the hood??? :? I cant figure out how to include a picture of it, but here is a link to the page the picture is on 🙂 http://www.bluegillfestival.org/bruce/C ... allery.htm

i have absolutely no answer to your qeustion, lol but is that your car in those finale pictures? if so, whats the deal with the under-hood decal? its awesome.

I don't know the answer either but I just wanted to say nice car. It looks to be a pretty high intake but I dunno. Try it I guess. Otherwise you can usually find cowl hoods pretty reasonable, sometimes on ebay. Let us know

Thanks guys yes for the coments/compliments

Yes I did the underhood insulator myself... it spray paint.

Was hoping someone had or could possibly measure from the top of the block to the top of their aircleaner and it would give me some kind of indication.

From the top of the valve cover gasket rail near the intake manifold to the top of my air cleaner is about 9-9.5 inches. I could not get a perfect reading because the tape measure had to tilt outwards slightly, and I am too lazy to measure and use the Pythagorean Theorem to get it perfect.

Thanks for that info, measuring my setup I come up just short of 9 🙂 That relieves the fear of cutting into my hood.

Worn body mounts can take away some of that precious clearance...

I know of a fellow with the exact same set up as me...
He had to cut a hole in his hood, and I have about the thickness of a nickel between the front of my air cleaner and the inner hood reinforcement.

I will also mention that I measured in the middle of the engine, not the ends. Remember that the hood clearance decreases the further forward you go. I would still put the hood down slowly the first time. You should also use a little modeling clay on top of the intake when you shut it to be sure you have adequate clearance. Remember that the engine moves around a bit and it needs a little leeway to not hurt stuff. My car also has aftermarket polyurethane body to frame mounts and may sit a bit higher off the frame than yours. BTW, my intake setup consists of: an Edelbrock Performer intake, a 1979 Quadrajet, a 1984 HO 305 (L69) Camaro dual snorkel air cleaner base and a 1985 305 (LG4) Monte Carlo air cleaner lid.

i didn't measure it precisely, but my brother has the same intake and our 2 engine are right around the same height, you shouldn't have any problems.
