hood hinge help

i just got out of the military and when i came home i found my kid brother took my 1985 monty out for a spin and got in a accident
the fendre was dented and he didnt latch the hood all the way it came up and the heavy duty springs saved it from taking out the windsheld
it has some small dents gut nothing major
it will work till i get a new one
but heres the problem

the spring on the passanger side came off i have it but cant get it back on
it looks like a coil style
is there any wat to get it back on so i dont have to use a board to hold the hood open when i work on it

When mine came apart, I remember having to bend something so I could wind the coil back up. I really cant remember exactly how I did it.
