Ontario, Canada eh!
gbodyforum.com
When I installed my new Harwood fiberglass hood, I re-used my hood hinges, without the springs in them. They are too strong for fiberglass hood.

Now, I have to use a 2x4 to hold the hood up and it's a pain in the *ss to say the least.

Also, I have affixed a small spring on the front, to make it pop up when I release the hood... but it sometimes slips off, it's not in the right location. It's a temporary fix.

Any suggestions on these 2 things? Where can I get a

- prop rod (manual, electric, whatever)
- hood spring (a proper one, to pop the hood up upon release)

I think I'm gonna have to fool around with universal items.

Have you thought about the shock/strut type lift that come on regals/GN. I don't know if those will be too strong or how they will mount. It was just a thought.

Had no idea. Thanks for the suggestion, I will look into that now. By the way the hood is still pretty freakin' heavy.

Edit: LOL I googled and came to your other thread viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22348&start=0

LOL I would like to use them on my cutlass because I hate the way the hood hinges look. I think the strut/shock just looks so much cleaner

since yer hood is so light why not use an old antenna motor to open/close the hood? that would be awesome. ya know what, screw you, im using that idea! HA!

Lol Well because, it's actually not that light. It's freakin heavy. Antenna motor wouldn't lift it. I think I'm gonna use the regal hood lift that's made for aluminum hood. It would match up nicely I think.

While the weight may be comparable to an aluminum hood, that still might not be a good idea. The issue will be, is the hood strong enough at the hinges to not break when all that force is applied.
A prop rod would be the safest way, although it may not look the best.

True!

Damn.. I knew that thought was buried in the back of my mind somewhere. That's why I love this forum!!!

Thanks jrm81bu and veltboy314, good point!

Alas, I will settle for a prop rod, just to be safe.

bonus on prop rod: its light weight and doesnt have any moving parts. 😀
