Ok one of my dreams since ive been 15 is for me and my friends who have toys to go to Cali and meet up with the HOTROD POWER TOUR and drive across country in our hot rods on a grand road trip. Now that im 30 and have a kid its not looking like im going any time soon. But hell or high water im going one day!!!! So here is my question. Has anyone gone from this site? How was the trip? What should anyone wanting to go need to know before going? Tell your story weither it be a good one , bad one or funny one. post pics of you on your trip if possable.

James,
Perhaps you can go when it passes thru your neck of the woods...or a nearby state. I attended the one that came thru Florida a few years ago. I didn't drive in it per se, I went out the Gainesville Raceway when the tour make a stop here.
It was awesome. I would love to do the power tour when my car is painted and I have my OD transmission in.
I couldn't believe the variety of cars...it's mind blowing.
Unfortunately, I missed the one last year that came thru Florida and stopped on southern Georgia. I know a few people that drove in it, and saw one of their vehicles in the Hot Rod magazine coverage.
Man, if you really want to do it, you will one day...life's not over yet...

I haven't been in it but I did attend the final day of it last year when it ended in Detroit. It was a ton of fun even though it was a pretty rainy day, so I can only imagine how much fun it'd be to actually be in it. I think you should go the second you get a chance too, I know I'd like to go once in my lifetime.

My son and I took the first two legs of the 2001 Power Tour. WE HAD A BLAST!!!!! I took lots of pictures, but can't show you any (DIVORCE  Lost all my car pictures)! I would tell you to try one or two legs of a Tour to just see what it's like, before signing up for the "Long Haul" (JMO).

were did you guys meet up with the tour at? do they run the same route every time?

I've been wanting to do it for years too. I'd also like to go to the CC Summer Nats. I think a 455 would be good for the burnout contest

i went 09 and 10. didn't stick it out the whole way. it is a good time. most legs are around 200 miles between stops. most of their routes are back roads. it would usually be about 6 hours a day of driving. if you stay in the main pack things can be slow going driving thru towns. you will want a good cooling system. other than that, when you get to the stop, it is a big *ss car show. i would guess 5000 cars most of the time. you will see new cars every stop. the local people show up with their cars. some will continue on with the tour. it keeps growing as it goes. you will want to reserve motel rooms in advance if you want to stay at the host city. i hope to have my car going in time to do some of this years. thinking of muskegon, mi. champaign, il. and madison, il. that will be enough for an unproven vehicle with alot of new systems.

May I suggest you do a "Hot Rod Power Tour 2012" web search! You should have most, if not all your questions answered. Every year is a different route. When my son and I went, we started the "tour" at Flint Michigan (about 50 miles from where I live).
