How Cheap Can You Run A Prestige Car For?

Its not that exotic , but my friend has a bad 1st gen RX7 i think you might get a kick out of . I have been helping him on it on and off for about three years . We are about to list it on ebay in a couple of weeks . It has a stage three port job on the engine , which is fresh ( under 1000 miles) And has all types of suspension mods , and a roll cage . But its claim to fame is the camden blower that helps it produce apx 300 rear wheel hp . It definitely has mad a stange or two cry . It looks completely stock except for the wheels . The roll bar it tucked so close and neat you have to bend down to see it even with the hatch open . You should see the look on peoples faces seeing a dual line 750 holley with the oil injection lines plumbed into the fuel bowls . Esp on an RX7 . the blower is almost as big as the engine , it sets off to one side , with no hood clearance problems . anyone like to see it ?

I'd love to see a pic of the engine. I haven't seen a Camden blower in a very long time. Rotaries are one of those neat technologies that have great potential when used right. It's on my list of oddball engines I would like to dismantle so I could see how they worked, like the 2 stroke Detroit Diesel that had a turbo and I think a blower as well. My ultimate freaky swap is also a popular one: Honda B series VTEC 4 in an original Austin Mini. What a power to weight ratio! Plus, if you used the 1.6, you would have no low end torque, which would help it off the line. You would also have good fuel economy due to low weight and small displacement.

I see where you're going with this. I would find an old Austin Healey. They are rare in the states, easily modified with American parts, and I have seen them for as low as 1700$. That would be my choice.

Here's an example of the problem though, an XJS wiper blade motor is 500$, unless you rework the entire system (which is about the same cost and a lot more work) there's no getting around that. Rolls Royce would be worse, you'd have to start with just a body and basically build a new vehicle. If any specialty Rolls part broke, there goes your wallet.

I will get some pics of the blown rotary posted friday after i get back from Kentucky . got to go get my header panel . I noticed you are from the Tampa area , My sister lives in Palm Harbor .

The thing about an XJ though, is that I can get a wiper motor for $15 from the local self-serve yard all day long. There are lots of 70's and 80's Jags out there, some with low miles that died due to the evil hand of Mr. Lucas, or the piss poor build quality of BL. The same goes for an old Mercedes. They yard has rust free metal for the W123, W126 and W124 in abundant enough supply to be easy to get, at least for the sedans. I even saw a W123 280CE on the local Craigslist today for $1500, and it looked nice. Now I will say again that any of this is way out of my price range as I am a pizza delivery driver and a part time student studying mechanical engineering. I already have 3 cars, one of which is slated to find a new home later this year. I am car shopping, but it is for a Civic or Sentra(Sunny) for under $1,000. I need something robust and fuel efficient. However, I love to dream and come up with ideas for discussion with others in hopes that I will inspire someone to build what I financially cannot.

As for an Austin-Healey, I know where there is a 3000 sitting partially covered and unloved on the border of Dunedin and Clearwater. I felt bad for it because I know what a cool car it has the potential to be. However, my ultimate British car would have to be a Mini, preferably a MKI or MK II with MK III doors, so that I could have roll up windows and not the sliders. If I build another car from scratch, it will probably be a Mini or a Datsun PL510 coupe as they are my favorite subcompact classics.

The Datsun would be a good choice also. If you find a civic with a good working engine, jump on it. I got mine for 1500$ with around 150,000 miles. 100,000 miles later, it's still bulletproof. The AC went out, it needs a new radio/speaker system, and brakes. But overall, one of the best investments I've ever made.

Then again, if a cheap beater Rolls could be found, I think it would be fun to paint it flat black, or drive it around with mismatched body panels to watch people's reactions. Plus, put in a giant stereo and boom some music too. Maybe do hydraulics and some 13in Daytons? Then take it to a high class restaurant and have it valet parked!

Maybe get a Rolls and take some suggestions from the stupid car mods we love to hate. Like a huge fart can, huge spoiler, lots of stickers, spinner hubcaps, and a roof scoop. Then take that for a ride in Beverly Hills. It probably would make alot of people cry. 😀 😀 😀

How about NASCAR-style side exit exhaust? Then trim the wheel wells with a sawzall and put some stock car wheels on it! Top it off with a big aluminum lip spoiler like they used in the 80's and you could have a stock-car look Rolls Royce! It would be the ultimate insult since it would take a car used by the upper classes and make it into something loved by the great unwashed.

Or better yet, get some demolition derby style headers and run them through the hood. That would piss off some pure breeds

Here is another idea, GENERAL LEE ROLLS ROYCE!!
