Alright, today I had my regal abortion out on the back roads trying to find the optimal RPM to Launch. Guess what, I aint got none, no matter what RPM I just burnt rubber. My first problem is obvious, my posi is burnt out, and I plan of going the easy cheaper route to posi strength and shove a mini spool in it. I have no clue what gears I have, but deep enought to light them up. Other than that I have a fairly simple suspention, Stock T-type, with air shocks in the back to clear the 275s. I believe the sway bar is also a stock item. Should I go for the drag shocks? I'm not worried about bottoming out cause on the streets I could keep the bags inflated, and when racing just deflate them to let the spring do the trick. what shocks are people using? Anyway what set up are people using to make these G-bodys hook and go?

What tires are you using?

If the tires aren't giving you two nice full tread marks you need to adjust the tire pressure and the preload on your air bags(you do have them plumbed for separate adjustment?)

Even without a posi you should be able to produce nice marks with some adjustment.

As far as shocks, I run KYB all around. If yours is a drag only track car you might want to invest in some 90-10 or 70-30 for the front and jettison the sway bar. For the street you might just adjust the bar for a looser fit that allows the front to lift. Also you might want to jack the front up to the height you think it will be at and loosen and retighten the control arm bushing bolts.

What surface are you using for testing? Loose material has a big effect on traction.

I've been to the high 1.7 60fts with some 7-10 psi launches with a pretty stock set up. This was with some G60-15 M&H DOT street slicks.

hook-up

hey texas-t do you drag race? what are you running and what are your times?

Just testin on some back roads, not the best conditions, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I got BFG radial T/A's all around, 155 skinnies in the front and 275's in the back. When they wear out I am gonna go to Drag radials. She leaves marks on the road. One long streak from the left rear tire. I can pedal into it and get a good run, but I cant do a full throttle launch, I just burn rubber.

auto trans? if so what torque converter?

don't get the spool unless you like changing axels alot.
I've saw enough break in my time.
you should be able to get a good posi for the same price as a spool.

I'd like to see some burnout videos! 8) 8) 8)

Turbo 350 transmission with mild shift kit, was told it was a high stall converter but seat of the pants feel its about a 2400-2600. I see mini spools for around 100 bucks, you can never find a detriot for that price.

I've made a few passes down the eighth and quarter in my time as well as a few late night forays on the street back in the day. I do not condone street racing but we all know it goes on. Take it to the track. That said, try launching at increasing rpms until you loose traction on the launch.

You do have a tachometer don't you? You sound like you need to vary the air pressure in your air bags. More pressure in the side that is spinning, less in the side that is hooking.

What about the mark the tire is making on the pavement? Is it a nice solid black mark? If it is two smaller marks you may need to add some pressure to the tires. If the mark is not full width of the tread letting some pressure out until the mark is a nice full tread width putting all of the tire to the pavement. This will take some time and testing.

I have the Regal.
It has been high twelves back in the day. Mostly stock.

It ran 8.60s in the eighth on street tires(BFG 265/50-15 on stock wheels) and 8.20s on DOT stickies(G60-15 M&H DOT racemasters on weld super lites).

I get one big wide black stripe from the passenger side tire, My air bads are hooked up together but seperating them wouldn't be hard to do. I actually put a few more pounds in them to day and way able to hook up better. A mild 2000 rpm launch and little pedal control gets me going fairly strait, even, and aggressive.
