Do you know if it is an Olds or Chevy engine? If its Olds it will hava an oil fill tube behind the water pump. Chevy will have the oil fill on the valve covers. If it is an Olds, there will be a number to the left of the oil fill tube, let us know what it is. If it is a Chevy, I am not sure how to tell what engine it is but im sure someone will chime in.

i looked it is a olds engine but there was no number the only numbers i could find were on the valve cover 0045062 also a7 on heads

If it does not have a big 403 in the side of the block its a 350/330/307/260. If its a slow turd its a 307 or 260 probably a 307. If it runs good its probably a 350/330 most likely a 350. Hope that helps some.

If it's an Olds engine, there WILL be a casting number on the shelf above the water pump, next to the oil fill tube. Scrape away any crud and look again.

with it ending in 5.0L, id assume its a 307

Correct. It's an Olds 307. Probably original to the car.

Some Chevy 305's had a similar marking with the 5.0L designator as well. A pic of the engine would clear it up.
