I have to question this to you guys who have had experience with these rears more than i do myself. Will my stock, 26 spline 7.5" 10 bolt, equipped with 3.73's and a clutch-type limited slip posi hold up to the occasional burnout(s) and running slicks down the strip?

I have an estimated 390-402 Horsepower/500 FT/LB torque olds 350 and a 3000 stall converter and manual valve body in the th350.
Supposed my cutlass with a posi, decent enough traction and 3.42's out back will run the best of 12.50 et's.
I'd love some input on whether i should spend $500-650 on the gears, installation and posi and keep this rear, or upgrade to a 8.5" or 9" as it will most likely grenade the second i launch off the tree?

the 7.5 will not last long with slicks and hard launching.

X2! Traction and extreme torque when launching is what kills them. Burnouts most likely won't hurt them.

My 7.5 lasted for months until i made first pass on slicks it went :puke:

ok, now i know so i dont have to be wasting any money on it just for it to grenade on me. Time to pick 8.5 or 9"rear

I've been looking for an 8.2 for one reason other than it's stronger is that it's 2" wider. It's hard to find the gears for an 8.2 so I'm not interested in something that is hard to find replacement parts for. An 8.5 G body is almost impossible to find and they are expensive. A 12 bolt is even more expensive than the 8.5. Ford 9"'s are plentiful and they are easy to modify to the length and bearing size. The gears are easy to find and a 9" is not that expensive to build so I'm going with a 9"

I found a shop thats some what close to me that builds custom 9" rears for any application for $1150. Maybe in the long run a brand new 9" would be the best buy compared to a used 8.5" 10 bolt.

Don't overlook the fox body 8.8 rearends. They are fairly strong and are cheap and easy to find.

i went some 6.70's with a 7.5 on the footbrake. broke on the first t breake launch. replaced it with a 12 bolt. ive got less than a grand in my set up now. strange spool. strange gear. moser c clip elimators and stock axles.
